Compared to when we started, some 30 years ago, the product base available to us now is vast. Not all of it is of the standard required to produce a quality product and therefore our staff have to be selective with the materials used.
We are called upon to frame
a wide variety of items, all of
which have their own particular requirements.

These include oil paintings - watercolours - prints
- lithographs - woodcuts - photographs - certificates - posters- maps - newspapers- mirrors
- embroideries - tapestries - batiks - papyrus - clothing - medals - etc.

The items brought into us invariably have to be prepared this would include cleaning, flattening, repairing, stretching, varnishing. Often using a mount, to the uninitiated a card border, can enhance the presentation.

The majority of our mount-board is acid-free and has a stabilised white core with pigmented face colour, this means the colour does not fade. Double mounts can in some cases improve the look of a picture, as can gold lines or rule and wash-lines.

With the advent of new machinery in our industry we are now able to cut and join almost any shape of framing and this has allowed the manufacturers to increase their ranges. You are now able to choose from various woods, veneers and metal. Styles include plain, ornate, flat, scoop, and reverse with widths from 5mm upwards. A combination of frames can enhance a picture and of course there are also the ovals and circles.

Finally we come to protecting the work. This can be done with glass, perspex or acrylic and is also available with a UV filter to avoid fading. As bespoke and commercial framers we are able to deal with detailed one off items through to quantity framing. In industrial applications we will, if required, attend meetings to discuss technical specifications and design concepts.
